Sewing with a Walking Foot

I’ve been experimenting with my sewing machine recently and was influenced to buy a walking foot for my machine.

I’d only ever heard of one when I was at uni, there was a special sewing machine set up for sewing leather, which had a walking foot attached, which did look as though it walked across your fabric.

Researching which foot to buy for my machine, I discovered that they don’t look as though they walk, but they grip your fabric from the top and bottom instead.

They are supposed to make sewing with lots of layers of fabric way easier, as the grip from the top and bottom helps to keep your fabrics together instead of sliding apart.

Also great for sewing with stretchy or slippery fabrics, this is how I was influenced to buy one!

Because let me just say, they are an expensive piece of kit.

I think my sewing machine was bought in around 2008, and apart from buying new needles every once in a while, I haven’t ever needed to buy any new accessories.

So you may think that I might be a little hesitant to splash out on a new machine foot, but as it turns out, I didn’t need much convincing!

I’m attempting to make a swimsuit as we speak, and this foot is making things way easier!

I do have a quilting project that I’d like to make soon, so this foot will hopefully make things a lot easier when I start that too!

Have you used a walking foot before?
