Finishing the last row

I’m not sure if anyone’s ever said it, or even wrote it down, but why is it so hard to finish the last row?

Maybe it’s just me, but on some projects, I find it really hard to finish that last row.

Thinking about it, it’s usually the projects that I have LOVED knitting. (It could be crocheting, or sewing, but it’s usually knitting, don’t ask me why!)

Sometimes, I’m so excited to finish, that I want to whizz through the project, and dedicate all free time to the cause. Just so I can have the new garment or accessory ready to show off!

But then I get to the last few rows, and I want to slow down. Like go really slowly, just so I can enjoy making the project for just a little bit longer.

Don’t ask me why, as the logic doesn’t make too much sense, but that’s how it is for me sometimes!

That is definitely what happened on a project I started nearly two years ago.

I started making the Loveland Lite shawl by TL Yarn Crafts in July 2023, and I loved making it. (Yes, it can sometimes be a tunisian crochet project!)

It was my first big tunisian crochet project that I attempted, using the most stunning hand dyed yarn by Cheshire Yarn.

I was happily working away, when suddenly I realised – I’m going to finish this soon! So, I put it away. (again no logic to it, but there it is!)

Nearly two years later, I dug it out, and decided to finish it. I think there was perhaps a degree of me forgetting about it, because waiting two years makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to finish a project.

I finished it in May 2025, which wasn’t the best idea, as even though I live in the UK, it was still too warm to wear a shawl.

I think the main point to take away from this, is that I did finish it, and maybe I shouldn’t have waited two years to do so. A week would probably suffice in future!

This is a photo of me finishing that elusive last row – I did it!
