Getting back into the swing of things

The last 6 months, I have been working on a secret project. Unfortunately for you, it’s still a secret – sorry! All will be revealed in a few months time!

As I’ve been working on said secret project, I haven’t had much time to work on anything else. A few bits of easy WIPs to give my brain a rest, but nothing really concrete. I did knit the Midland Neck by Laura Penrose as a quick gift knit, and it was really enjoyable to work on! I used Hayfield Soft Twist DK in the colour Navy, which was an absolute bargain at Black Sheep Wools, especially as I only needed to use 2 balls!

This pattern is so cleverly constructed, it was my first of Laura Penrose’s designs, and I’m sure it won’t be my last. An I-cord cast on, and knitting from side to side, so your row gauge is what gives you the width instead of the usual stitch gauge. It is also knitted in garter stitch, which I feel like I have massively overlooked previously. I love the look and feel of stockinette, but garter stitch is so squishy and especially with the Midland Neck, it will keep the wearer super warm!

I really enjoyed knitting this pattern, as it gave me design inspiration with the way it’s knitted up. I love finding new designs like this, that make me think about all of the amazing things that you can achieve in knitting, and new ways to go about it. 10/10 pattern.

Hayfield Soft Twist DK has unfortunately been discontinued, I am working on a cardigan using the Claret colour, which is a lovely burgundy, but I am feeling a bit gutted that I haven’t used it much before!

I hope you are all knitting away, have you found a pattern that has given you design inspiration? Let me know in the comments!
